ABOUT ME

IMG_4501.jpg

I bought my first portable mill over twenty years ago and now operate a fully hydraulic portable Woodmizer LT40 here on the Sunshine Coast. It is a great mill.  Simply put, I enjoy working with wood and turning a log into a timber or fine lumber that can be used locally. Over the years I have learned there is a lot more to being a sawyer than it appears. I enjoy working with people who care about their land and trees and see value in locally milled wood.

At first, I milled wood for my own projects, from timber framed homes to chicken coops and fences but people kept asking me if I could mill their wood.  These days I enjoy working with people to make sure the trees they care about are put to good use. A good bandsaw mill can minimize waste and very efficiently and cost effectively cut wood on site. Each tree is unique and there is something very satisfying about a locally cut and milled timber from your own trees.

I have lived an eclectic life as a film maker, running non profits and travelling the world to work on environmental issues and human rights.  I have worked saving the rainforests on projects in West Africa to the Amazon  (and here in Canada).  I always enjoyed building and working with good wood.  I mill wood locally these days because I enjoy it and I enjoy sharing what I know about cutting wood sustainably. Our trees here on the Sunshine Coast are precious! I run my mill with this in mind.
